Hints’ Vol. III sees the band slowing the tempo a bit but dialing up the atmosphere and expanding the sonic landscape. The cycling buildup of ‘Endless Well’ sets a brightly-lit chorus against the shadowy verses, and second track ‘Forced To Ask’ plays like a teen prom anthem for those who would never go.
Where Vol I. traced the edges of the Hints sound, Vol. II solidifies the core. Lead track ‘Cher Ami’ – a supercharged, twin-guitar paean to a lost friend – finds its counterpart in the bass and jangle workout of ‘Solstice,’ another solid entry in the druid-rock pantheon.
